Nebuchadnezzar's destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC separates Daniel and his betrothed leaving little hope they will ever be reunited.

PLOT SUMMARY

The story opens with the Babylonians marching on Jerusalem.  In the chaos of battle, Daniel and his betrothed, Leah, are separated.  Daniel ends up in the king's court, Leah in the slave trade of a distant city for refusing to be a concubine of the king.  The story weaves back and forth between Daniel and Leah with both facing incredible tests of their faith.  Daniel finds Leah's mother who tells him (mistakenly) that Leah died during the invasion.  Leah has a chance meeting with her brother Shadrach who dies before he can tell her about Daniel.  The story reaches a climax when the affairs of state bring the Babylonian court to the city where Leah has become part of a baker's family.  The family supplies the bread for a feast associated with the royal visit during which a proclamation is made freeing the Israelite captives.  Leah's surprise at hearing the proclamation and shock at seeing Daniel standing with the king gives way to a courageous march toward the throne the result of which is an impromptu wedding ceremony for Daniel and Leah officiated by Cyrus, the Persian king.

“Daniel motivates us to walk the talk. In our modern times, we find the Bible, and the Christian faith, increasingly under attack. Not only from outside, but even from those expected to uphold its message and significance. Daniel serves as an inspiring example of how God honors those who don’t shy away from convictions when pressure becomes uncomfortable. Or unbearable."
